Mail from Michael Brennan:

Love your Harman page! I'm sure he'd have been proud to know he hasn't been forgotten. I bought this bike a little over a year ago from a friend of the original owner, Chuck Long. I spoke to Chuck after the purchase and he told me he was a high school friend of Johns' and asked John in 1973 to build him a bike for the 1974 Sacramento Bike Show. I don't know if it was Chuck or John that decided to chrome the frame but it is the only Harman I've ever seen chromed. Paint is still the original John had done for the bike. Engine is a 1974 XLCH with heads ported by John. Fork is obviously John's, hubs are Hallscraft's but the front spool was changed to a mini drum at a later date and I am looking for another Hallcraft's spool. Original seats are long gone but I was told they were LePera. Tank is a Gary Littlejohn modified by Harman. I'm looking for more info/ coverage of the 74 Sacramento Show to hopefully find pics of the bike in its heyday and to get a better idea of the seats.

I'm in the process of re-assembling the engine and hopefully she'll be on the road again soon.
I attached a picture of a sketch that was hanging on the wall of, Chuck's friend's garage, the man I bought the bike from. This man also knew John and rode with him and his wife a lot. He told me it was a sketch of a place called Reds they all used to ride to in NorCal and that John, Harry and a few of the other guys are depicted. Don't know about all that but the sketch is all long choppers with John's front ends on them.

Best Regards,

Michael Brennan

Hi Michael, thanks for writing. I would love to add your pics and story to my Harman page! Hopefully someone will read it and maybe have the pics from the Sacramento Show that you are looking for. Best regards, Mark

Hi Mark, Absolutely go for it any help is greatly appreciated. I was told by an oldie this afternoon that he saw the bike at a show in NorCal and that Chuck had said Harman had done a set of Shovel heads with welded on carb spigots for this bike but they never got put on because they ran out of time ti build the Shovster before the show. I'll have to call Chuck about that tommorrow. I know in 75 Harman did a pair for Holland's show digger. Best regards Michael
